Installing windows 8 on a USB stick

So recently we saw the release of the windows 8 developer preview, within hours of its release to the general public i had visited the microsoft site and downloaded a copy to try. My original plan was to run the preview in a virtual machine to get a feel for it it. It didn't take long before i wanted to give the upcoming os a try on some actual hardware but i reached a predicerment i didn't want to duel boot, i didn't have a spare computer laying around and i didn't want to be swapping hard drives all the time so i set about installing windows 8 on my portable harddrive. now this may not sound impressive at first but if you go and try it right now you will find a nice message from Microsoft telling you that you are not allowed to install on a USB device (see below picture).

So my first idea for solving this problem was to install the OS to a standard hard drive and then image it across. unfortunately this soloution did not work as windows would then get stuck at a there was a problem with your hardware screen and request to do a repair but not find the os.

So now we actually get the the solution that i used and that worked for me quite successfully. You will need a computer powerful enough to run a virtual machine and some virtual machine software vmware and virtualbox are the main two. for my solution i used virtualbox and of course you will need your usb device to install onto. a portable hard drive is probability best.

To start with you will need to create a new virtual machine give it a hard drive of at least 20gb the rest you can assign almost anything you would assign any other virtual pc. mount the windows developer preview cd (download from microsoft developers website) in the virtual cd rom and boot the machine. Be sure to press whatever key you need to press to boot from the cd. (usually f12) start the installation process so that it begins installing to the virtual hard drive you gave the machine.

At the point where the system is about to restart (after copying files, installing updates, ect) take a snapshot of the virtual machine so that you can come back to it if you need to. while the countdown for the restart is showing mount your usb device into the virtual machine and mount a boot-able disc cloning cd. Also remove the windows 8 cd from the virtual cd drive. when the computer starts back up again make sure that it runs your cloning cd. if it doesn't boot that cd you missed your chance and should go back to the snapshot and try again. it did take me a couple of tries.

In your cloning utility simply copy the virtual hard drive to the usb hard drive. once that process is done you should be good to go. when you take your portable hard drive to another computer and use the boot from usb option you syhould be able to run windows 8. Every time you change hardware windows will need to configure the new hardware but it won't crash like it did with solution one. Be aware that because you are running the os from a usb device it will likely be a little less stable and a litle slower too.

So I can't say i am an apple fan but i recently needed a new phone so i now have an android. Its a motorola milestone 2 which is an android 2.2 device with a qwerty keyboard, touchscreen and most of the other things the android's have. I must say i really do like it. It is fast and does everything i want it to and more. It was a bit hard to get in Australia because at the time no one sold it outright and the plan options were pricey. Having said that i found an Australian website that i could purchase the phone from mobcity.com.au and they were very good. Today i would like to share with you some of my favorite apps i use on my android and i hope they will help you too.

Web Browser: Dolphin Browser™ HD
I love the visual style of this app as well as its features. It is great because it allows you to change your user agent.

Other: Tiny Flashlight + LED
The name kinda says it. Ok this one does have adds but it has an ad-less widget that does great at toggling the light (LED Camera flash or other custom) on or off.

Email: K-9 Mail
I like this email app because it provides multiple inbox's and customization for each account.

Note Taking: Evernote
Allows you to do a lot with your notes and even use voice, pictures or documents in them. It also syncs to the cloud and your desktop computer if you wish

Storage: Wuala
Provides secure storage with backup and sync. Its a little slow sometimes but does a good job at looking after your files. Its saved me more than once. Space Adventure - continued

Well i have returned from quite a long overseas trip and i can ohnestly say i am sick of traveling. i racked up a total of around 44 hours of time in the air on flights(will show a breakdown as we go)

my trip was separated into three major stages.
1. family visiting - one week
2. NASA Space Camp - one week
3. Holidaying - one week

stage one:
flight: Australia to Los Angles - 14 hours
flight: Los Angles to Boston - 6 hours
running total air time: 20 hours

well after my long hall of 14 hours to the U.S. i had a lay over in the airport. as you do. in this time i found out that the airports puts on security announcements every 10 minutes. very annoying as you could imagine. Anyway i made my way to Boston where i met up with family(which i haven't seen for well umm... i don't remember) i spent a couple of days at this stop where i crammed as much stuff in as i could. Trips on the subway, aquarium, MIT museum, the boat the Constitution, the city hall, the aquarium and more. Some of there activities were not so interesting for me as i have never studied United States history but it was still good to go. Boston was my first chance to try some of America's and Bostons famous foods. New England clam chowder, Boston creams and well everything was different but fun to try. Anyway i quickly run out of time in Boston and i continued my trip.

flight: Boston to Chicago - 2 hours
running total air time - 22 hours

my time in Chicago was shorter then that in Boston i did not do as much it was almost just an extended stop between destinations.

from Charge i traveled to Huntsville where the NASA Space Camp is held. it didn't take me long to confirm my suspicion that i was the only Australian on this weeks camp. My team was Von Broan one of only two advanced academy teams. i did all the activities i listed in my previous post space adventure (http://smilysspot.blogspot.com/2008/09/space-adventure.html) and more. including; mutual boiency simulator, more missions, helicopter crash and rescue, two stage rocket building and more. There is really not enough space or time to put it all here. Space camp soon came to an end so it was time for my next flight.

flight: Huntsville to Dallas - 1.5 hours
flight: Dallas to Honolulu - 8 hours
ruining air time total - 33 hours

Not much could be much better then a week in Hawaii. The weather was great i explored almost the entire island and got to try some new things in particular surfing. exhilarating, hard but also easy and lots of fun. of course this wasn't the only thing i did the culture center, beaches and everything else (except the prices) were good too.

finally my trip came to an unwanted but also desired end. you can only have a holiday for so long before you get sick of it all.

flight: Sydney to Melbourne - 1 hour
total air time - 44 hours

Each day has been long and fun. I start at around 4:00am and Finnish at about 10:30pm. I can't tell you exactly what i have done so far as i have scheduled this post but i can tell you some of the things i expect to do and by now i may have done.

haven't you always wanted to fly a space craft. I will be taking part in two missions, by this point in the camp i will have probably done one mission. In the two missions i do i hope to get the jobs of mission specialist and flight director. These were the jobs i did last time i went to space camp and i found them quite challenging and fun.

Iriver Plus 3 for Mac

Well since my post about iriver plus 3 i have had many people ask me if it is available for mac. So i have done some research and the simple answer is no not right now. However firstly this does not mean you can not use your iriver product on a mac and secondly this does not mean that iriver is developing a version of their software for mac (or already have by the time of you reading this).

my advice to you if you do wish to get iriver plus 3 for your mac is this.

visit the iriver site and contact iriver http://www.iriver.com/ http://www.iriver.com.au/
if you wish to run iriver plus 3 on your mac without bothering with trying to talk to iriver maybe your solution is to use a windows simulator such as wine.
i must point out that iriver plus 3 is not an essential to the use of an iriver device. By using explorer in windows or finder on the mac you can copy your music to the clearly marked MUSIC folder on your iriver x20 (not sure about if the other devices have such obvious direction)
If you are having trouble with files being in the incorrect format for your iriver you can use windows media player (which i know is avalibe for mac) to set up a sync partnership which will convert music (if necessary) and then copy the music to the device. If you set it up you can even have windows media player shuffle which music will be put on the device according to your rating and play statistics of the song. the windows media player for mac is http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/mac/default.aspx

Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 review

I have recently had the chance to use adobe premiere and when I began using it I immediately started to compare it with final cut pro, which I would say is the Mac equivalent, so I have decided to review adobe premiere.

Pros:

• More features
• More comprehensive features
• Available for pc and Mac
• Compatible with more (providing codec is installed)
• Faster processing
• Informative
• Dynamitic
• Compatible with many other related products: flash, after effects, Photoshop, etc

Cons:
• Resource hungry

One of the things about premiere that I found and immediately went out to test was the range of effects and their ability to be manipulated. It appears that every video editor I use has some sort of downfall and so I use another video editor to fill the gap. Premiere is no different. Premiere has ample video effects which can be customised in many different ways but it lacks on audio transitions which are pretty much just as important.

The interface is easy to use for someone who has already used another professional editor. It takes virtually the same window structure which can also be moved around to suit the user. The interface is also the same in the way that clips are modified, edited and used.

The main downfall I have found with premiere is the amount of system resources it uses. Mostly memory but still it uses a lot. In fact adobe premiere uses more memory then the most intense game I have on my system. I was amazed to find that adobe premiere uses almost twice the memory of the game which about 500mb used while at idle. I think I know the reason for this though. It seams that the rendering rate of adobe premiere’s quite fast; taking about 75% of the time that final cut takes. I think that the memory is used to render in the background. Anyway when you do bring up a window such as the rendering window it is quite detailed in comparison to final cut. Information such as the frame it is on, the total frames, the time taken, the time estimated to be left and the hard disc space remaining are shown.

I quite like adobe premiere in fact I like it more then final cut. Although adobe premiere is in need of improvement in some areas I have found it generally easier, faster and more flexible.

I have had a furthur chance to use premiere. In this time i have found many little but very useful features such as find effect or video and the many presets for things.

The MAT

The Multi Axis Trainer (MAT for short) is a space simulator which i have had the pleasure of using and which i will have the chance to use again. It is a very fun simulator which once was used as part of NASA's training. The video below is one i have made demonstrating the MAT. PLEASE NOTE!!! It seams that all my posts seam to come in big groups. There is these long stretches of boring then a bunch of fun stuff happens. Anyway on to the topic.

Today i sat down in my IT class and turn on a computer. I logged in and began work. As i worked my computer got progressively louder. It got to the point where the people on the other side of the room could feel the floor vibrate from the systems shaky fan.

I quickly moved but the little remote control plane of a fan that the computer i moved to was no where near as much fun. I think that next lesson even if i am not on that shaky computer i will turn it on just for the fun of watching the room shake.

just in case you stumbles across this post as you are having a similar problem i would suggest tightening your fans screws or even replacing the fan if it persists. In this case i could do neither of these as our school computers are locked.

Security

well it has been a while since my last post but the only reason for that was there was not really much to write about. However now there is, Computer security.

This is an issue that is of constant concern to the whole computer community with anti virus and firewalls being common to find on any computer though sometimes i think some people take these things a little too far. Almost a week ago my school's technicians put into place a new security pollacy that prevented all applications from running unless allowed through the filter.

It has been interesting to see the problems that have come up with this new network policy. For example none of my information technology class could do any work today as the application we needed was blocked. Somehow though us the students can still play all the games we want. It appears that with any security feature when first put into place is a bother and is ineffective at what it was supposed to do. It has been almost a week and even though the techs know i doubt they can be bothered fixing it. Dispute this running applications can now be quite a pain but I'm sure I'll get use to it.

well that's all that is going on in my world at the moment nothing else notable worth talking about.

Well as you may know from previous posts i have an iriver x20. although i have reviewed the iriver plus 3 software until today i did not realise that i had not reviewed the player so here we go.

The player

Well over the several months of having my iriver x20 i have been almost nothing but impressed with its performance and features. I only wonder what player i will get once i have too much media to fit on my 8 gig player on a two cycle rotation.

I have had no crashes or problems with my iriver x20 and if i was to I'm sure that removing the battery and replacing it would be an easy and effective solution to the problem.

The iriver x20 has a style that differs from many players. It is said that the player was built around the interface which entirely complements the sleek design of the x20. The player is held horizontally and with some simple setting changes the screen can be rotated.

The radio is a great feature that i demand when i get a player and the iriver radio reviver is reasonably good although some setting changes were required to set up the right region it works well. The other problem i find with the radio is the reception. if you want to lessen to the radio you are going to have to plug your headphones in to act as an antenna. kind of annoying for me as i like the speaker.

The audio quality is excelent.

The iriver x20 is well designed and unlike a ipod which relies on heat and touch to operate its functions the iriver x20 has physical buttons making it easy to change track while the player is in your pocket.

I think the iriver x20 is great it provides all the features of a other players and some more on some of them. My rating 8.5 out of 10.

Well i have found a great resource for downloading or making themes for almost any nokia phone including my nokia e65 and its free. you've got to love the Internet for the free stuff it can give you.

So rather then fiddling around with the series 60 theme creator i can use a simple and easy interface which includes templates for it too. If you have a nokia phone i seriously recommend that you check out this wonderful resource for phone themes.

Well today i encountered a rather strange problem with my computer.

when using msn the popular chat program i found that everything was in french. Now i only can understand one language, English so it has been quite a problem for me to attempt to change the language back to what it is supposed to be.

The thing is that the language changed on its own within the space of five minutes and i know that no one has logged into my account seeing as i would be informed of the change and I'm not the only one with this problem i have read many posts and complaints with people having the same problem. How do you change it form french to English?

So as i am not the only one suffering from this problem i must blame Microsoft, the providers of the msn service. I hope Microsoft fixes this soon.

The Gold Rush

No this post is not about history this is about the new update to team fortress 2

i have owned team fortress 2 for about a month now and i love its entirely different play style to any other game i have played

my favorite class would be the demo man

anyway the new gold rush update has added new weapons for the medic and a new play style. both of which i love.

i think the problem comes with the way you acquire these new weapons. the achievements system. it is a good idea but for the unskilled player like me i am likely to never be able to complete all the achievements and therefore never be able to get all the new weapons. it would be nice if valve gave some leniency for the wide range of players that play there games.

The only other problem about this game update is that it only added new weapons and achievements to the medic class. this has meant that the majority team fortress 2 community wants to play as the medic to unlock the weapons flooding the servers with medics.

However despite the downfall of achievements being a little too challenging and the flood of medics i still must say that team fortress 2 is my favourite game. its new payload game play provides a new interesting challenge which is great. I can't wait for the next class update which will hopefully balance the flood of medics.

The Drought

Well as i time this i sit in a waterless enviroment. The taps, shower, hose, toilet, and well anything else that uses water has no water.

This is not because i have not payed my bills. It is not because i am in a place that has no water infact quite the oppisite i am in a general resadential area where there is no empty blocks and i could probabilly walk next door and get water from there, if they had water. the entire street or more like the entire block or the entire area around me has no water. With the exception of the road, the road has pleanty of water soo much water that it has hogged it all from us.

Well Harry is now six monthes old and so i gues i should tell you what he has been up to.

Harry has grown considerabilly since when we first got him however he still has pleanty to do.

Harry seams to continuously find and chew all sorts of things besides a bone. He has destryed several stuffed toys and seams to enjoy draging stuff around. He has done many funny things such as standing on a pan he is eating from.

Harry is full of energy.

Harry appears to be quite smart. He has grasped concepts such as the sit command without and difficulty. However i don't think this would of been so easy without another dog around.

Well i have just had a great night out in the city i went to see PPriscilla queen of the desert the musical.

Well one of the parts of the story if you don't know it is the drink one of the characters has a strawberry dackery and well at the show they had these Fancy flashing glasses. If you look at the picture of it below you should notice several things.

1. it is flashing (even though the photo doesn't show it very well)
2. the cup no longer has strawberry dackery in it (the dackery was rather nice)
3. the glass is crooked (Not so much in these pictures but it was very croockedbefore)(damm Chinese)

so its not me that is drunk its the Chinese trying to frame me but leaving the made in China sticker on the bottom of there master work.

hard work and hard work

well as i sit here in class typing i can't help but laugh at my fellow IT students while they are doing an assignment i am having fun using remote control software on the school computers. You see i finished the work early and so i have had almost two hours of free time to do whatever i want on the computer i am now sitting at.

Vet IT is my favorite class but unfortunately it wont last for too much longer today. Gues i will go and torment some more people with that weird mouse that seems to move without anyone at the computer.

Multi

Well seeing as i have a multi cor prosessor i am getting good at running lots of things at the same time.

The other day i decided that one of the things that needed multying (for no apparent reason but for fun) was windows live messenger. Usually you can only log into one accout on messenger at a time and have one instance running but i soon fixed that.

I actually stumbled accross the solution quite by accident. My keyboard is one of those fancy ones which has additional as well as the standard alphabet, number keys and function keys. I was pressing the mail button when i accadentally pressed the messenger button right next to it and so i had two copies of messenger which were entirely seperate.

It doesn't stop just there i could have twenty copys of msn running now. Isn't it great how you just stumble accross the solution to a problem.

The Big Break

YAY! the end of the year for me has come i finnished year 10 five days ago and year 11 wont start for about three months.

What a big break it is but i am sure that i won't get too bord ill have my hands tied up with Harry, friends and all sorts of stuff like that.

Hurricane Harry

Well Harry sertainly has been trouble but he has also been alot of fun too. Today i have some stories of what he has been up to.

Story 1: who's walking who:

The other day we took Afrika for his first walk since our new arival. Harry hasn't had all his injections yet so he can't go for a walk yet but even so he wanted to come too. Soo much so that when Afrika had his lead on Harry took the other end in his mouth and began walking.

story 2 The dog ate my homework:

It appears that Harry is a chewer he espesally likes shoes but if he cant get shoes one of the next best things is the paper towl or the mass of books sitting on the floor. Harry has created quite a mess but it is also quite funny.

story 3 The wiker shelf:

Well it appears that Harry's faviourite place to lay-around is on the bottom shelf of the wiker stand. It doesn't look as if he would fit but he does. He has started to chew out the bottom, i wonder how long until he falls through.

Story 4 Breaking an entry:

Well the other day Harry found the cat door and he refused to stay outside. If only it was another week then he would probabilly be too big to fit through. Oh well we have barracaded it so that solves that problem.

Harry has also found that he can make it into a stroage room by pushing on a rollar door that has no bottom mounts. His efforts to stay in a place where we would rather not him be have been foiled again. I put some heavy boxes on the other side of the door so it can't be pushed.

One Brandy Please

Well today was the day we got our new dog he is a Cardigan Welsh Corgi (the same type the Queen breeds).

It took a while to choose a name for our new friend one the ideas was brandy. We eventually decided on a name for him it is Harry. His pedigree name is: Cambrian Make My Day.

He's full of energy and is bouncing off everything already. I'm going to have to hide my new shoes if I don't want them to become destroyed.

Afrika(our American cocaspanial which we already had) is sceptical about the new arrival, but he'll just have to get used to the new fella, even if he shows Afrika up a few times.

Harry has a great personality and is pleanty of fun. However he is still a trouble maker.

FILE SERVER

Because today is a wednesday i don't have to go to school. YAY. Because my brother has just finnished school he is also home.

So today we decided refresh an old computer we had lying around by formating it and installing the only operating system which it supports windows xp. Our plan is to turn this hunck of junck computer known is the 800 (because of its prossessor speed 800mhz) into a file server.

So we have formatted the hard disics and we have just finnished installing xp. As always the first things the computer will ask for after having xp installed it requested a username to be used.
We decided to make our user name FILE SERVER as this was what the computer would be.

An error message appeared when we did this it was that one that said no symboles are to be used but the other thing it said is that FILE SERVER is not a valid name for a user.

Well we have decided on another username and it did work so back to work we go.

I Love Wednesdays

Now i love Wednesdays because my VET IT program has finnished. This means i have no classes, i get to sleep in and i defenitly don't get any homework.

Well i have a great new addition to my desktop that i pritty much only just added. It is a feature found in beryl. The 3d cube. This graphical feature allows me to have four virtual desktops. It is great fun to spin around with them but it can also be a nusence because i keep loosing windows. Take a look at the screen shot.

Grease again

Well this is not a post about the country greace when spelled incorectly nor is it a post about that anoying stain caused by grease. This post is to signify the farewell of my school production Grease. which i did backstage for.

Even though Grease finnished on wednesday night because i didn't get home till thursday morining and then i slept in i havent had a chance to write about it yet.

The best show was probabilly Tuesday night. This is because we had no screw ups. The last night, Wednesday, was defenitly not the best night. It seemes that every show that is put on there ends up being some major problem on one night. Last year in south pasific the lead actor fainted mid way through song. This year we tripped a power circut leaving us without any light or sound for ten minutes of the second act. oh well it always seems to be the way.

I am already mising the fun of Grease and i cant wait until next musical.

Grease

Well as many of you know i have been working hard on our school production grease for a couple of weeks now. ( backstage department) and if you want to go futher then just backstage i am the assistent stage manager.(more because i wanted to still be part of the fun of moving stuff then lack of experence).

It is finally come to the time to show off our great work. We have already done three performences. We are now half way through. It is great fun and i wouldn't want to be doing anything els with my time.

We have already encountered some problems and overcome many of them. there is one big one that no one has overcome though. all the cast and crew of this great show are in great shortage of time and sleep due to our almost continuous work.

I could really tell you so much of what has been happening but you really have to have seen the show or even better been around as part of the cast or crew to get the proper picture. Too bad we sold out of tickits before the first night.

well i gues i better go and rest while i can.

Clash of the Talents

well for today and yesterday i have been helping out with the clash of the talents.

The final product was great! but the preporation was well a nightmare.

I think one of the main problems we had was: NOT ENOUGH EXTENTION CABLES! (because my school doesn't have much money)
On the other hand it looked crap because there was only six lights that worked and we didn't have a lighting desk to control them.

Oh well it was still fun partisipating in the set up and backstage stuff even if it was a real pain. It looks like tomorrow i will be starting on another teching job. But this time i know it has sufficent lighging and equipment.

To Heven or Hell

Well after watching my Toshiba Satalite M33 laptop limp along with a verity of problems and component replacements it has finally died and i cant be bothered getting it fixed. It has gone to Tech heaven or hell. Sob.

Thankfully I will be gettin a brand new laptop it will be about four times more powerful. YaY.

Well yesterday our school decided to right into the rules that all ipods would be ban.

I don't have to worry about this rule though. I dont't have an ipod. I have an iriver x20 which is totally different to an ipod. Thay cant ban it. Plus even if i did have an ipod i would take it anyway and say that the rule of ban ipods is not in my dirary and so i don't have to follow it.

Also other things have been ban not recently but for quite some time, jewery. well my solution for this ban is to where something that is like jewery but isn't actually. My ring is actually a washer or nut. which if taken i will simplly replace with only about a two cent charge.

Rules are made to be broken.

Nokia E65

Well now ive had about a month to play with my new phone i have decided to write a bit of a review on it.

Features::
wireless, bluetooth, infa red, slide phone, quick office, 2 megapixle camra, speaker, voip, conference call and much more.

Description:
this phone is very stylish and is ment to be a business phone. indead when i use it i feel like i am running a business. The e65 has many features making the phone capable of almost any situation and it is cost affective with its wlan voip capibiblities. I have had little trouble with it except for occasional slow loading time when starting, random resets (posiblly because battry drain at these times was high) and a short battary life. The E65 has all the features and applications i want and need and proforms exceptionally well after the time taken to start it. All connections; wireless, bluetooth, cable and infa red performed exceptionally well with no glitches or phone freezings while in use. The interface is clear and easy to use after you have spent a couple of hours with the phone. It would be nice to have more choice than two themes when purchasing the phone and the software to creat a theme for the e65 is quite hard to use oh well you can't have everything. The e65 comes with 50mb internal memory and a 256mb mini sd card which i have found to be perfectly adicute for all my uses.

What obscure things have you had go missing. Over my years at school i have seen all sorts of things go missing but today was the first day i have heard that a locker bank go missing.

Yep a full locker bank with contence included went simplly went missing leaving only a mark on the floor. Everyone thinks it was just moved to another coridoor but i cant find it. Well i don't really care about it anyway it wasn't my locker. but well the idea was interesting.

Bledisloe Cup

Went to the Bledisloe Cup at the MCG last night to watch Australia vs New Zealand. The first half seamed quite one sided with the all blacks leading 15 - 6. The second half was much better with the Aussies scoring two converted tries and the blacks scoring nothing. Go Aussies!

As the week has come to an end the week has got better. There has been more tasks for me to have fun doing, such as a shoot, and i was allowed to leave early seeing as it was a friday.

The hole week was great and i would be happy to go and work there for another week.

Well as you can tell from the tital today was the first day of work experence for me. Becuase everyone is asking is it fun to me i will say here yes. As a remider i am working at bayside media you can find a link to there site on the side. Today i found out how time consuming it can be to make a very small peice of work. We were shooting for a 30 second TV ad all day. It took over an hour to set up the green screen with lighting and then it still wasn't quite right. We shot the shots we wanted and i guess ill be editing it all tomorrow.

Well i am sure youhave noticed the video bar but i think i will just point out for those confused with it how to operate it. (i only really gave it a try today hense figuring it out)

To watch a vedeo from the vedeo bar is quite simple all you need to do is click the desired vedeo you want to watch. After you have done this scrol back to the top of this blog and wait a couple of seconds. The video you chose should appear in a youtube format. Just click play and enjoy.

Damm Public Transport

It always seams that the public transport system is against me.

The bus is always late or soo early that i miss it and have to wait around 25 minutes for the next bus which is late.
The times that the transport runs doesn't coinside with the times i need to be at places. I can ether be there half an hour early or twenty minutes late.
The buses dont go where i want them to go. when there is a perfictly straight, quick and easy rute to take the bus goes way out of its way to eventually get to my destination in about 50 minutes more time to which it could of taken.
Bus coverage in some areas is terrible with only one or two buses covering the area making it so i have to way out of my way to get to the only bus that gets me to where i want to be.
No matter whether it is bus, tram or train they always seam to be packed with only a confined standing space left
Sometimes even though the bus is not packed and is ment to stop it drives straight past me when i am clearly wnting to get on. Then the bus stops at the next stop and lets people on. Arg!

Well yeah i guess i am done complaining for a while. lol.

Well you know how there is that bloody filter list rejected page. Well my school over uses it.

My school uses the filter list rejected page to the extent of blocking me from pages from the following

computing (IT Class)
Business (IT Class)
gardening (Food)
Shopping (IT Class)
Personal page (IT Class)
Chat (IT Class)
War (History)
Windows (IT Class)
Microsoft (IT Class)

Those are only some of the things i have been blocked for. So how do you bypass the filters.

Use a translator such as altavista's babalfish or google translate
type in the ip address of the site you wish to go. (to find a sites ip address in a comand prompt windows type ping then the site name. For example ping http://www.google.com/ In the progress of the ping it will tell you the ip which would be something like 60.22.141.19 (note some networks will block pings that are going to the outside world so this may not work.))
Use a proxy like http://www.roxy.org/ (there are many more proxys avalible and if you know how you can creat your own.
Copy the url to the allowed sites list. This is a really simple way of making it so you can access a site but it is ofen blocked by disallowing the internet options right.

Well yay. I have finally got a new phone to replace my nokia brick. Its the nokia e65 and after i have had i couple of weeks to play with it, i will post a review of it here for you all to read.

This is a simple program designed to get all the information about your windows system you could posibilly want and you don't need to install it. Some of the information it gets includes.

operating system (version, updates, servis packs, etc)

system directories (unfortunatly in a rather disorganised way)

installed programs, updated, add ons

application and addon info (goes for miles)

system files

settings (accessibility, enviroment, regonal, etc)

running processes (you can end them)

Drivers

Servises

atorun list (eg anti virus software)

schedualed taskes (eg system scans or backups)(you cannot edit the schedualed taskes but you can find out about them)

loaded codecs (video, audio)

open files

users, user groups, user info (password enabled, lease started, password renew, name, etc)

ant well thats only half the softwar info

This program is fantastic despite the long time that it may take to gather some information. It is even better that you can export the information you gather into a webpage format that you can open and view from your usb on another computer. You do NOT need administrator or power user privleges the software will just plow through any barriors that are thrown at it. SIW provides a password cracker for windows 2000, a process moniter and even a remote computer information gather. You can see what ports you have open on your computer and what is connected through them. It provides a network scan that gives information such as computers on your workgroup, ip's and shared directories/files. There is a help menu.

Overall although this program is old it still runs on xp (not sure about vista) and is packed with great features. 9.75 out of 10!

I feel like im in a game

You know how there is those games where you can only see a certain distence because the creates put in fog? well today was a day like that.

The fog never stopped it saw me when i woke up, It enswerled me when i walked to school, It consumed me at recess and lunch, It covered the oval and i surgested that we play hide and seek on it, It followed me home from school and it has hidden my backyard.

From before dawn to god knows when it will stop there has been mist. Some of my friends i figure didn't come to school because when they woke up it looked as if it was 5am, others i guess just got lost in the fog.

Ha golbal warming. Although what can i say this is Melbourne.

Iriver Plus 3

I have recently purchased a new mp3 player, the Iriver x20.

I like every aspect of it except its compatibility and it not being able to delete files while on the move. Anyway with the player I got some software to help transport the media, Iriver plus 3, you don’t have to use it but it’s a good idea. Here is my thoughts and observations of the software.

The 3d look of the media infomation panel is good but takes a while to load

It is anoying to find that the software atomaticly updates itself on start up. I have not found a way to stop it except turning of modem or disconnecting from network

The simple drag and drop is good

Having files updated to my player in the background after droping them is great but there is no way to stop a singal transfer and when a transfer finnishes my computer will freze for about 30 seconds. Strange because my computer way outstrips all the specifcations

The feature of showing the picture you have selected and the one on eather side of it is good

It has some codecs that windows media player doesn't have

It is good that it converts media into a format that my player can play. However this can take an extreamly long time and appears to be rather glithy with freazes and occasional errors for files that are supported

I find it quite helpful that this program checks to see if the file you are transfering already exists and gives you a great deal of imformation about what is on the device and how much space is used, remaining and total

It can be both an advantage and disadvantage that when some files are transfered (pictures) the quality is reduced

It is interesting to find that this program has a text document viewer. I would not need this but i guess its there because some players allow text files

There is only one boring, dull skin that the player has i'm not really sure if you can download more (i hope you can)

I know you can have it in windows media player but it is just not the same as what Iriver has to offer; music fading. I like Iriers style better but it is rather hard to explain so i won't bother

Overall i feel Iriver plus 3 is well good for transfering media to your Iriver product although you should check on it every half hour or so. You could use it as a media player but i wouldn't. Rating 6.75 out of 10

todays events

Ah yes you just gotta love those days where you do nothing.

Today was one of them.

The only thing i have done today that was productive was write this post. This is because today as part of a media class excursion we went to the bayside film festival which the entire media class worked in groups and entered about six films. My groups film was not shown today. Infact looking back no films from my media class were shown. I have a couple of oppions for this.

1) they didn't have time which was understandable and means that they will be shown tomorrow when i am not there, damm.

2) our film did have some copyright woes and the theater didn't want to show it because of it. This didn't stop us last year.

3) our film like many others that were from our class and other schools and were shown today was crap.

Oh well its always great to have a day off.
